Seriously?! Trump's Press Sec Claims Kennedy Center Renamed for HIM by *His Own* Board!

Trump's press secretary announced the Kennedy Center was *unanimously* renamed for him. The board, full of his appointees (including himself), made the decision. How is this real life?

Seriously?! Trump's Press Sec Claims Kennedy Center Renamed for HIM by *His Own* Board!

More details:

WTF Just Happened

Okay, stop everything! Did you just read that?! Trump's press secretary, Caroline Levit, blasted out a tweet claiming the "highly respected board" of the Kennedy Center just voted, get this, unanimously to rename it the Trump Kennedy Center! Why? Because President Trump apparently "saved the building" from some physical and financial doom.

Trump himself, always humble, said he was "honored by it" and "surprised" by the move. Surprised? Really?! It's like he just found a twenty-dollar bill in a coat he forgot about, except the coat is a national monument and the twenty-dollar bill is his ego.

Wait, HOW Did This Happen?

So, a "distinguished board" made this happen, right? A truly independent body of cultural connoisseurs? Oh, honey, no. Let's peek behind the curtain of this "independent" group. The chairman of the board is none other than Donald J. Trump himself. Yes, the guy they're renaming it after is the one who chairs the meeting. Is this a joke? Because I'm not laughing.

But wait, there's more! The board is a veritable who's who of Trump loyalists and appointees: Maria Bartiromo, Pam Bondi, Pamela Devos (related to Betsy), Patricia Dugan (wife of a major donor), Sergio Gore (Trump's ambassador to India), Pamela Gross (Melania's advisor), Laura Ingraham, Allison Lutnik (wife of Trump's Sec. of Commerce), Dan Scavino (Trump's advisor), Usha Vance (VP Vance's wife), and Susie Wiles (Trump's chief of staff). Every. Single. One. Appointed by Trump.

So, the "unanimous vote" to honor Trump was cast by people appointed by Trump, led by Trump himself. Are we supposed to believe this was a spontaneous outpouring of artistic appreciation?

Are We Serious Right Now?

This is where my brain just short-circuits. Can he even do this? Legally? NO! The building is statutorily named the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Congress gave the board precisely zero authority to change that name. The law is crystal clear, outlining the name and location. It's not a suggestion, it's a statute!

"The board shall construct for the Smithsonian Institute...a building to be designated as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts..."

So, a hand-picked board, chaired by the guy who's being honored, votes to violate federal law? How is this real life?! It’s like a cartoon villain naming a city after himself, except it’s happening in Washington D.C. The fact that the executive branch seems unwilling to uphold its own laws is a terrifying thought. Here are some things that make absolutely NO SENSE:

  • The chairman of the board votes to honor himself. Seriously, the audacity!
  • A "unanimous" vote from a group of unelected, hand-picked loyalists. What a shocker!
  • The complete and utter disregard for actual federal law governing the center's name.

Okay no, but actually HOW can they just ignore the law like it's a polite suggestion?

💡 Why This Is a Big Deal (Unfortunately)

This isn't just some goofy name change; it's a symptom of something much, much darker. While Trump is busy orchestrating self-congratulatory stunts, real people are facing real problems. Healthcare costs are about to explode for 24 million Americans. Medicaid is being ripped away from 17 million people. Food assistance is getting gutted! All while Trump has been promising a better healthcare plan for nearly a decade with absolutely nothing to show for it. Nothing!

Prices for everything are skyrocketing – housing, rent, food, energy! His approval rating is tanking, Republicans are losing elections left and right, and what's his focus? Naming buildings after himself. He promised free IVF, didn't deliver. Promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war, didn't deliver. Promised lower inflation and protected benefits, didn't deliver. This is not populism; this is pure, unadulterated self-service. From a $400 million ballroom to gold-leafed Oval Offices and billion-dollar jets, he's exploiting the federal government to pad his own pockets and those of his cronies. Does that sound like he's working for you?!

So… What Happens Now?

Thank goodness for checks and balances, right? If and when this absolute clown show is challenged, the courts will likely have something to say. But the bigger picture here is terrifying: the less popular Trump becomes, the more desperately he insulates himself with loyalists and heaps hollow honors onto his own name. It's a band-aid on a gaping wound of insecurity and unpopularity.

He can slap his name on every building from here to Timbuktu, but it won't change how people truly perceive him. In fact, it only highlights how desperate he is to legitimize himself, because deep down, he knows he's a small, weak, and deeply unpopular man. And here's the silver lining, if you can call it that: there will come a day, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, when he will be powerless to stop all this cheap gold leafing and these self-aggrandizing name plates from being torn down. And what will he do then? Rant on some obscure social media platform to a country that has finally, blessedly, moved on. Good riddance!
